A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Welcome to the website for the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC)! Our agency administers the State's highway safety grant program which is designed to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities. The work of LHSC could not be possible without dedicated safety partners from across the state who are all committed to a very simple mission, coupled with a very important cause - Changing Behaviors, Saving Lives.
LHSC's programmatic focus ranges from impaired and distracted driving to occupant protection and are executed through the use of public outreach, education, and enforcement.
The LHSC staff works with our community partners to develop data-driven approaches which convey strong and impactful messages of roadway safety for all Louisianans. We are also responsible for providing technical assistance to grantees and ensuring compliance with federal program regulations and guidelines.
Please take a moment to peruse our website and discover all that LHSC has to offer! Within these pages you will find information ranging from our annual grant and contractual process (which begins in March) to eye-opening data and statistics. We welcome you to join our LHSC family by subscribing to our distribution list or becoming a safety partner or ambassador. You can click here for additional information.
I am proud to serve as your Executive Director and Governor's Representative for the State of Louisiana. The charge of saving lives on Louisiana's roadways is a priority for our administration and the single most critical component of our work—and I am committed to leading this effort.
Our relentless pursuit to achieve Destination Zero will not waiver. It is through avenues such as education and outreach that we will continue to empower our citizens to make the right decision before getting behind the wheel. A decision that has profound impact, and a choice that could determine life or death. I implore you to help advance our commitment to the highway safety cause. Your involvement could ultimately save someone's life - or your own!
Yours in Safety,
Katara A. Williams, Ph.D.
